We have a wide variety of speakers, ranging from our own members to world-renowned professional astronomers and we likewise cover an equally wide variety of astronomical subjects. We also have outdoor events when necessary (see the events tab above) such as viewing eclipses, meteor showers and other sky phenomena. As the most Easterly astronomical society in the UK, we often get to see some events 'before' anyone else!
If you are not very knowledgeable about astronomy, don't worry! You will be in good - and helpful - company, because a lot of us started out not knowing very much either! The whole point of an astro society is to make learning about the sky a natural and enjoyable experience. Neither do you need lots of dosh; it is a common fallacy that you need expensive and complicated equipment. In fact you can even do serious science with nothing more than an ordinary pair of binoculars! But if you do think about purchasing a telescope or camera for astronomy, we have several members who can provide advice - which could well save you money at the same time - And their advice is free!
